Drake Supermakets Charity Showbag

Supporting the community has always been an important part of Drake Supermarkets since the very beginning, and I believe all good companies have a corporate social responsibility to do this, and we look forward to continuing this in the future.

Drake Supermarkets has donated in excess of $1.0M to local community and charitable organisations, not only through the Charity Show Bag initiative but also our Community Dollars Programme. The Drake Supermarkets Charity Show Bag is in its 13th year and we have raised in excess of $545,000. In 2010 the show bags were sold for $4.99 and we sold 21,000 show bags across our supermarkets, and due to the fantastic support we received from our customers we sold out within 3 days.

As in previous years, four major charities (RDNS, QEH Research Foundation, FMC Breast Cancer Research & the Phoenix Society) have equally shared in the proceeds raised from the charity show bag in 2010, which I am extremely proud to say is $74,880.80.

Drake Supermarkets would like to thank all who has made this the success it is today!

Community Dollars History

Community Dollars is a program which the Directors of Foodland Promotions discovered on a Study Tour in 1992. Foodland Promotions put the program into practice in the Foodland stores in July 1992.

Each Foodland store installed a box at the front of their store giving customers the opportunity to support local charities by putting their receipt into the box of their choice. Every three months $500.00 was distributed to the charities. Foodland Promotions withdrew the program in 1997 but we still continue to support the program.

Our major recipients for each store are: Queen Elizabeth Hospital Research, Breast Cancer Research, Royal District Nursing Society, Bedford Industries and the McGuinness McDermott foundation which was supported for nine years as a major recipient, recently being replaced with Bedford Industires.

Each store also has four other local charities for customer support which are changed periodically. They are local schools, lifesaving clubs, football clubs, kindergartens, Neighborhood Watch, Community Hospitals, scout groups, Animal Welfare, Guides Dogs, St John Ambulance, CFS and many others. If a charity is not receiving support from customers, they are replaced with another.

Application forms for charities to register for the Community Dollars program are available from our participating stores, head office or you may download one from this site.

Due to the cost of administration, vouchers are now distributed every six months. We have donated over one million dollars up to date.
